Gender Division

The Gender Division is mandated is to promote gender equality by coordinating and monitoring the effective implementation of Gender policies with other government Line Ministries and cooperating partners. The Division is committed to protecting and promoting women’s rights, curbing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and reducing gender inequalities by making progressive changes to legislation to strengthen the protective environment. It aims to prioritize the advancement of women and strengthen their capacity to influence decision-making at the highest level on matters pertaining to gender equity and equality.

Our Portfolio Functions

The specific functions of the Division are outlined in the Government Gazette Notice No. 1123 of 2021 as follows:

  1. Gender;
  2. Gender Based Violence;
  3. Gender Equity and Equality;
  4. National Gender Policy; and 
  5. Women Empowerment.

  1. Gender Policy Formulation
  2. Gender Mainstreaming
  3. Economic Empowerment of Women
  4. Prevention of gender-based violence and the multidisciplinary management of survivors
  5. Monitoring and Evaluation
  6. Communication and Advocacy
