The Secretary to the Cabinet Mr. Patrick K. Kangwa on 18th June,2024 launched activities leading to the commemoration of the Africa Public Service Day on Sunday, 23rd June, 2024.
Mr. Kangwa said Zambia will join the rest of the Continent in commemorating the Day which recognises and celebrates the role the Public Service plays in driving the country’s development agenda as well as that of the African continent. He added that the Day provided Public Service the opportunity to reflect on its performance as well as its future in light of rapid technological advancements and the ever-changing needs of the people.
The 2024 Africa Public Service Day will be commemorated under the theme “Empowering a Citizen–Centric Public Service for an Inclusive and Thriving 21st Century Africa: A Journey of Lifelong Learning and Technological Transformation“.
It was revealed that a series of activities will be held at national and provincial level. These include exhibitions and public discussions. During the exhibitions, public service institutions will showcase various services and products offered to our people as well as technological innovations in service delivery. In addition, public discussions will be held on radio and television on topical issues related to the theme.
The activities will take place from Thursday, 20th June to Sunday, 23rd June, 2024 across the country. In Lusaka, the exhibitions will be held at the Piazza, East Park Mall. Similarly, exhibitions will be held in all the provinces spearheaded by respective provincial administrations.
During the exhibitions, members of the public will be able to access on the spot services, such as health services, educational services, pension services, national registration.
The exhibitions will present an opportunity for the members of the public to interact with various public institutions under one roof and further, will provide a platform for the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders to engage in meaningful dialogue on enhancing service delivery to meet the demands of Zambia@60 and of the 21st century.
In this regard, the Secretary to the Cabinet called upon all members of the public to find time to participate in the Africa Public Service Day celebrations both in Lusaka and in the provincial centres.
The activities will climax on Sunday, 23rd June, 2024 to mark the actual Africa Public Service Day. In Lusaka, the ceremony will be held at the Piazza, East Park Mall, the venue of the exhibitions.
At this event, outstanding public service institutions will be awarded for exceptional performance, innovation and dedication to service. This is aimed at motivating public institutions to always pursue excellence in service delivery.
The awards will be in the following five categories: –
- Most high performing public institution;
- Most ethical and inclusive public institution;
- Most e-transformed and innovative institution;
- Most customer centric institution; and
- Best exhibitor.
Members of the public were invited to participate in selecting deserving institutions to receive the awards during the commemoration ceremony by voting for their preferred institutions in each of the award category.
The selection process would be done through a toll-free SMS voting platform on all mobile service providers, which will run from Wednesday, 19th June, to Friday, 21st June, 2024.
