The Government of the Republic of Zambia regrets to inform Members of the public of the death of Former Cabinet Minister in the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy – MMD Government, Hon. Edith Zewelani Nawakwi.Hon. Nawakwi, 66 years, who was also President for the opposition Forum for Democracy and Development Party, FDD, died today, Monday, 7th April, 2025 in South Africa where she was evacuated for specialist treatment.
The Late Hon. Nawakwi had a distinguished political career and served in the Cabinet of Second President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Frederick Chiluba from 1993 to 2001 as Minister of Energy and Water Development, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries, Minister of Finance and Economic Development and Minister of Labour and Social Security. She was first appointed as Deputy Minister for Energy and Water Development and served from 1991 to 1993.
